Content: "The test is...taken from...Quentell's 1478 Bible in the western district of Low German, though it has throughout been adopted to the Low Sason dialect."--British and Foreign Bible Soc. Historica catalogue, v. 2 p 484
Content: Illustrations: 113 woodcuts, comprising 90 cuts (Schramm, v. 8, no. 357-375, 377-394, 396-448, including one repeat) in [v. 1], and 23 cuts (Schramm, v. 8, no. 449-462, 464, including nine repeats) in [v. 2]. Historiated borders (cf. Kaufzsch, p. 6-7) on 1. 2a (preface), 1. 5a (Genesis), 1. 272a (Proverbs), 1. 436a (New Testament) and 1. 535a (Apocalypse). The borders, 21 cuts in [v. 1] and all cuts in [v. 2] are colored by hand. Because of a misunderstood passage in the preface it has been thought that the designs were copied from paintings in churches and monasteries, but Kautzsch has traced them to a manuscript. The cuts were probably made in Cologne by a woodcutter trained in France.
Content: Binding, contemporary, of brown calf, blind tooled, over wooden boards, with eighteenth century labels. Clasps wanting from [v. 1-2] and metal bosses and corner pieces from [v. 2]. The tooling, which includes religious names and symbols, differs in [v. 1 and 2].
Content: With ms. notes throughout, and ms. table of the epistles and gospels for the church year on 1. 542.
Content: The Stolberg-Wernigerode copy with bookplate of Christian Ernst Graf zu Stolberg.
