Content: The publisher, Alexandre Dumas Delany, was the son of the author, Martin Delany, a noted African-American abolitionist, physician, newspaper editor and soldier. Delany Sr. was one of the first African Americans admitted to Harvard Medical School, and served during the Civil War as a major in the 104th Regiment of the United States Colored Troops.
