Biographical/historical: Sophia Gent, née Daniell, was the daughter of William Daniell, the English landscape painter and engraver. She exhibited in London galleries as "Miss Daniell" from 1826 until her marriage to Thomas Gent, sometime around the beginning of 1832. William Godwin's diary records Thomas's death on 7 November 1832. Sophia apparently remained in Britain until the late 1840's, when she moved to Baltimore, Maryland. She exhibited in Baltimore between 1848 and 1850, and in Philadelphia between 1853 and 1868.
