Very fine nastaʻlīq in black ink with titles in gold, blue or tan written in white on a pale red-hatched background. Gold, blue and black rulings. Only one folio of the double-folio sarlawḥ remains (the first folio of the dīvān, presmuably with the headpiece, is also missing). Two inscriptional panels - the top one reads al-Badīʻ al-bāligh amlaḥ al-shuʻarāʼ and the bottom one giving Navāʼī's name -- appear above and below six lines of gold nastaʻlīq reserved in white and on a background of pale red cross-hatching, the whole surrounded by an elaborate border of medium-sized floral motifs on gold and blue backgrounds. One double-page frontpiece and 3 single miniatures: 1b-2a, 13a, 80a, 140a. Several ownership seals: blurred Qajar seal with faded inscription (folio. 4a), erased Qajar sqaure seal on fol. 180a, below is an oval seal that reads "fāl-i Abī ʻAbd Allāh" (fol. 180a).Content: On the last page, a note says that the book One Thousand and One Nights was read in 1274 / 1835-6 in the town of Qalʻah-i Naw; below this, in Russian, is written: "Read in January 1859 in the city of Shūsh (?)"Preferred citation: NYPL. The first (fol. 1a) gives the title and author's name and says that the calligraper was Shaykh ʻAbd Allāh al-Kātib al-Haravī and the date of the composition was 5 Rajab 982/1574 (the date is probably incorrect as the calligrapher died in 1542). The second (fol. 180a) says that the book entered the (royal?) library (khizānah) in 1181/1766-7.Ownership: Two inscriptions on fol. 180b read: "This Dīvān, on the first day of Rabīʻ II in Tūshqān yıl (year of the hare) which is 1235 (1819-20) entered the official library as a gift from Ḥajjī Mullā Amīn 'the old teacher' (muʻallim-i qadīm)"; and below: "This Dīvān of Navāʼī on the first day of Muḥarram in quy yıl which is the year [unreadable] entered the official library as a gift of Ḥajjī Mullā Amīn 'the new teacher' (muʻallim-i jadīd)".Ownership: A note on the front flypage says the manuscript was reviewed in 1251 / 1835-1836.
