Content: Text copied in in the early sixteenth century by Sulṭān ʻAlī Mashhadī (d. 1519) -- colophon 39a. Illustrations added ca. 1560. [Text probably copied in Harāt, miniatures probably added in Bukhārā]
Content: Physical description : Cream gold-sprinkled paper inserted in stiffened margins with stenciled or painted designs. 8 lines, written diagonally. Fine small nastaʻlīq. ruled. The manuscript is profusely illuminated and includes a shams (fol. 2a), a sarlawḥ (fols. 3b-4a) and decorated margins on each page, all somewhat damaged by water stains. The stiffened margins present a representative selection of stenciled and painted designs as produced in Bukhārā ca. 1550-1575, including stenciled floral patterns, gold-framed cartouches, large curvilinear patterns and large geometric interlaces that frame lion heads and birds (fol. 27b). 6 folios with minatures. The writing on the pages with miniatures is inferior and not by the same hand as the rest of the manuscript, probably the hand of the famous calligrapher Sulṭān ʻAlī Mashhadī. Various seals and ownership notes on folios 1a-2a and 40b, not all fully decipherable. Miniatures: 2b-3a; 29b, 30a, 39b and 40a. Miniatures attributed to Maḥmūd (fl. 1540-1565) and Khwājakak Naqqāsh.
