Biographical/historical: The English dancer, choreographer, teacher, and actor John D'Auban, 1842-1922, is probably best remembered today for his association with W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan, for whom he choreographed many operettas. He was a prolific choreographer for the London stage, contributing to pantomimes, burlesques, and music hall performances. He began his career as a child dancer in his family's troupe, and continued to perform as an adult. He married in 1871, and his wife used the stage name Emma D'Auban.
